30% Faster Comp Cycles on Oracle Workforce Compensation

Challenge

A global investment banking and financial advisory firm with offices across multiple regions was running its annual compensation cycle largely on spreadsheets. Compensation at an investment bank is high-stakes, multi-component, and unforgiving of error, and the spreadsheet-driven administration was creating accuracy risks, disputes, and compliance exposures that the firm could no longer comfortably carry as it scaled globally. The firm wanted a governed compensation platform that could standardize annual planning across its global employee population, replace manual spreadsheet workflows with auditable ones, and improve payout accuracy while reducing the kind of disputes that erode trust between the firm and its bankers. The platform also had to integrate cleanly with Workday, which remained the firm’s HCM system of record.

Solution

Apex IT implemented Oracle Workforce Compensation as the governed compensation engine, layered into the firm’s existing Workday environment rather than replacing it. The Apex Oracle HCM consulting team designed the architecture so Oracle WFC handles annual compensation planning, salary adjustments, bonus calculations, and approval workflows, while Workday continues to serve as the system of record for worker and salary data.

Oracle Integration Cloud (OIC) handles the exchange of worker and salary data between the two systems, keeping the WFC engine in sync with the Workday data of record without manual reconciliation. Apex built the Oracle HCM implementation around a Core HR foundation sized to enable the comp module, an architecture that extends the firm’s capabilities without disrupting Workday’s role as the HCM system of record.

Apex’s design addressed the operational realities of investment banking compensation: complex multi-component plans, performance-driven adjustments, and the audit-grade trail administrators need at scale. The result is a governed Oracle HCM performance management capability built around how compensation actually flows in a global investment bank.

Results

The platform is delivering measurable gains in the first cycles. Annual compensation cycles run 30% faster, manual compensation adjustments are down 25%, and the firm has the standardized, governed workflow that investment banking compensation demands at a global scale. Spreadsheet dependency has dropped substantially, payout accuracy has improved across compensation and bonus processes, and the controls and visibility built into the platform are lowering disputes and strengthening compliance across compensation cycles.
