Unifying Field Service Across a Multi-Affiliate Utility Holding
Challenge
A multi-affiliate utility holding company with operations spanning seven affiliated brands and their sub-affiliates across North America faced a structural problem with field operations. Each affiliate ran on its own systems and workflows, with no shared workforce management layer to coordinate technicians, standardize service processes, or produce a portfolio-wide view of operational performance. The fragmentation limited productivity, complicated reporting, and made it harder to meet rising customer expectations for responsive, transparent utility service.
The holding also needed a foundation built for the next decade, not the last. With affiliates expanding their service territories and customer demands intensifying, the existing patchwork would not scale without another full-scale rebuild in a few years.
Solution
Apex IT partnered with Oracle Consulting on a multi-year Oracle Field Service Cloud initiative reaching every affiliate in the portfolio. The work brings together Oracle Field Service, Oracle Utilities Network Management System, Oracle Utilities Customer to Meter, Oracle Human Capital Management, Oracle Cloud Financials, and Oracle Integration Cloud, with deep integrations into IBM Maximo, SAP, and the various custom-built systems already running across the affiliates.
Apex’s role combines Oracle cloud consulting and senior program leadership: shaping the deployment strategy, working through questions of feasibility and sequencing, and delivering Oracle implementation services that guide affiliates with materially different starting points through a transformation at this scale. Each affiliate is brought onto the common platform in phases rather than a single cutover, so day-to-day service continuity is preserved as standardization rolls forward.
The architecture is built to absorb growth rather than constrain it. As new affiliates or sub-affiliates enter the portfolio, the operational backbone is ready to accommodate them without bespoke rework.
Results
The initiative is establishing one operating view of field activity across the holding’s affiliates, with standardized processes replacing the patchwork of legacy approaches. Leadership now works from aggregated field data that previously sat in silos, IT security is strengthening alongside the operational changes, and the platform gives the holding a foundation that scales with its utility footprint rather than against it.
FEATURED SOLUTIONS
Strategy & Consulting Services
The hardest work happens before go-live. It’s also the work that decides whether everything after it was worth doing. Connect with our team to see what real strategic partnership can do for your business.
Artificial Intelligence
Apex IT is already inside this work, every day, in our consulting practice and on our customers’ platforms. We learn AI the way we’ve learned every platform shift since 1997: by building with it, alongside customers who are ready to make it a part of how their business actually runs.
Technology Implementations
An implementation is the operating foundation your business will rely on long after the project ends. We build it for that horizon from day one, and we hold the work to the exacting standards that a long-running platform demands.
Managed Services
Managed Services work picks up where most engagements drop off. The architects and consultants who built your system stay involved into the run phase, so the institutional knowledge that comes from implementation goes with you into operations instead of resetting at the handoff.
Cloud Migrations
A cloud migration is one of the few chances a business gets to step back and ask what its platform should actually look like. Apex IT ensures every answer is built directly into the work.
Data Management
Clean, governed, connected data is the least visible part of a transformation and the part that decides the most. Apex IT has done this work through every platform era since 1997, and we bring that experience to the records your business depends on. Talk with our team about where your data stands today, and what it would take to trust it completely.
