From Fragmented Field Tools to a 35% Faster Debrief on Oracle CX
Challenge
A global engineered products and services company with complex field operations across more than 20 countries was running its field workforce on a patchwork of legacy tools that did not connect cleanly into the back office. Field technicians captured job data, materials, and labor in different ways depending on geography and project type, and that fragmentation meant project managers had limited visibility into work status, supervisors struggled to assign and manage workload effectively, and billing cycles took longer than they should have.
The company wanted a single global field platform that would standardize how data is captured at the point of work, integrate cleanly with the financial, supply chain, and HR systems that depend on field data, and shorten the cycle from job completion to invoice. The platform also had to work across the company’s range of environments, from routine maintenance to complex, project-based engagements that define the company’s services.
Solution
Apex IT implemented Oracle Field Service Cloud as the unified global field platform, with Oracle CX Service handling service requests and contact center workflows, Visual Builder (VBCS) extending the technician-facing experience where the company needed custom workflows, and Oracle Integration Cloud (OIC) wiring the new platform to the company’s broader operating systems. The Apex Oracle CX consulting team led the build, designing the platform around the way the company’s field technicians actually work.
The architecture moves field data into the back office in near-real time. Crew, time, and material data captured at the point of work flows into Oracle Supply Chain and Oracle HCM Cloud, driving accurate billing, payroll, and the financial visibility project managers and supervisors need to run the business. As an Oracle solution for oil and gas field operations, the platform supports both routine maintenance work and the project-based engagements the company runs, with dashboards that let supervisors assign and manage workloads across both.
Results
The platform is delivering measurable gains in the field. Offline debriefing of approved service request totals is 35% faster, and first-time-right capture of crew, time, and material data has improved by 15%, both of which shorten the cycle from job completion to invoice. Supervisors have dynamic dashboards to assign and manage workload across maintenance and project-based tasks; project managers have faster visibility into work status, labor, units, and approvals; and the company has reduced its dependency on fragmented legacy tools, improving user adoption and simplifying support for both field and back-office teams.
