What is our Capability Maturity Model?

Our Capability Maturity Model (CMM) is a tool that helps organizations assess and improve their processes. It’s a methodology that provides a structured view of process improvement across five levels of maturity: Initial, Managed, Defined, Quantitatively Managed, and Optimizing.

• Initial: This is the starting point for any company where processes are unpredictable and reactive.

• Defined: In this stage, all processes are well characterized and understood, and are described in standards, procedures, tools, and methods.
• Measured: This level involves detailed metrics and analysis to provide a statistical understanding of process stability and predictability.
• Innovative: The final level is about continuous process improvement, using a quantitative understanding of process capability to target and implement incremental and innovative process improvements.

The CMM helps organizations understand their current effectiveness, and provides a framework for setting process improvement goals and priorities. It’s a roadmap to guide you from ad hoc, uncontrolled processes to mature, disciplined processes.
